The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has awarded the Visayas State University (VSU)-Department of Development Communication (DDC) as a Center of Development (COD) in Development Communication for the second time on May 17, 2016 at the CHED Auditorium in Diliman, Quezon City during the Higher Education Week and CHED's 22nd anniversary.
VSU President, Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, received the recognition with the DDC Head, Dr. Christina A. Gabrillo. The second VSU-DDC's COD status takes effect on January 1, 2016 until December 31, 2018.
It can be recalled that VSU was first designated by CHED as COD in Development Communication in November 2012 until December 2015. In addition to the Plaque of Recognition, the DevCom department received PhP1.5 M which it used to partly finance the revival of the VSU radio station (formerly DYAC, now DYDC-FM) which is a laboratory facility of development communication broadcasting students, improve the department's other laboratory facilities, and implement capability building activities for development communication educators and practitioners in the Visayas and Mindanao.
As a COD for the second time, DDC will receive another funding amounting to Php1.5M. This will be used by the department to conduct research and extension activities, improve its facilities and equipment, and enhance its capability as a leading institution in DevCom program in Visayas and Mindanao.
Dr. Gabrillo said that she is very grateful to the VSU administration, and to the faculty, students and alumni of the department for their continued support which made the CHED−COD designation possible.
