Ten students of the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences (CAFS) in VSU went to Israel for an on-the-job training (OJT) and practicum in Agro studies at The Agrostudies, The International Centre for Agricultural Studies in Ltd., D.N. Hefer Granot 3881100, Israel from September 2016 to September 2017.
Seven students (one from VSU Alangalang and 6 from the VSU Main Campus) have already left for Israel on September 14, 15 and 26, 2016. These students include Dexter C. Relevo, BS in Agricultural Technology student of VSU Alang-alang; Ruy Niño L. Olo, BS in Agriculture; Ramon M. Salvador, BS in Agriculture; Rex A. Pensona, BS in Development Education; Feelrom D. Llanita, BS in Development Education; Jhapet M. Añasco, Bachelor in Animal Science; and Roy R. Baldovino, Bachelor in Animal Science. The remaining three students from the VSU Main Campus left the country on October 19, 2016. They were Grieza J. Apao, BS in Agriculture; Archille C. Galupo, BS in Development Education; and Filmar B. Abanera, Bachelor in Animal Science.
The on-the-job training and practicum is sponsored by the Student Internship Abroad Program (SIAP) of Israel. According to Mr Aljay Valida, Instructor of the Department of Horticulture and the OJT coordinator, SIAP is an on-the-job training and internship program where the company will pay the students who are considered as scholars. The students have the chance to learn agricultural skills as they immerse in the farms where they are assigned to have their practicum.
The 10 students are the fourth batch of students from VSU who took the internship program since 2013. They are mostly third and fourth year students who applied for the OJT and passed the screening conducted by a committee composed of faculty from the various departments under CAFS and by the VSU student's scholarship committee.
